Lunch Time Pals

Lunch Time Pals is a lively St. Patrick's BNS tradition. Meet Tadhg, our school therapy dog

Meet Tadhg, our school therapy dog Meet Tadhg — our school therapy dog at St. Patrick's BNS. Tadhg is part of everyday school life, supporting pupils and staff. Boys can spend time with him during the day — walking, playing, or a quiet belly rub when they need it. We're grateful to My Canine Companion and to Mr Mullins, Ms Kelleher and Mr Foley for caring for Tadhg. He recently graduated from training college with honours — we're very proud of him. I have a dilemma and feel conflicted about my choices. View full image

Business Update Cork City

I have a dilemma and feel conflicted about my choices.

Long shot here as finding an analogy is not always the easiest but imagine a minute tranferring your preferences to a simple food choice..... your mouth wants a cookie but your body wants a carrot. It’s like two friends arguing! To solve the argument, you have to be a "Great Listener." Listen to what the carrot will do for your muscles and what the cookie is just doing for your tongue, then pick the one that makes your whole body happy. Why This Happens: This is a conflict between your "needs" (biological fuel) and your "wants" (sensory entertainment). Your "Engine" wants to use the least amount of effort, so it often chooses "comfortable shortcuts" (like fast food) that others have prepared. If you always follow the "group value," you self-sabotage your own unique health path. How to Fix It: Use the "10/10/10 Rule". Ask: "How will I feel about this food choice in 10 minutes? 10 months? 10 years?". This clears the "mental rust" and helps you choose based on your long-term "Durable Self" rather than a short-term impulse. Context Research: Maslow's Hierarchy reminds us that eating is a basic need, but once survival is met, food becomes emotional. By "elevating your consciousness" above the reactive "Fight/Flight/Fawn" response, you can make eating a "deliberate choice".

How Hypnotherapy Helps in Addiction Recovery

Explanation Recovery is a deeply personal journey. When you are working to overcome an addiction, your mind and body are dealing with a lot of stress. Hypnotherapy is a safe, gentle tool used alongside regular medical treatment or counselling to help you find calm and regain control. Hypnotherapy is a state of deep relaxation and focused attention, similar to the natural feeling of daydreaming. During this state, your nervous system quiets down, reducing the background noise of daily anxiety. Alexandre Mitellus, a qualified hypnotherapist and psychotherapist based in Ireland, works with clients in both English and French to help retrain how the mind responds to automatic urges. By working directly with subconscious associations, hypnotherapy makes it easier to adopt positive, healthy thoughts and establish long-term freedom from harmful habits. If you feel stuck repeating the same cycles, learning how to reframe these subconscious patterns through [[“I feel stuck in a habit”](https://goodwords.info/?p=778)] provides a solid foundation for sustainable recovery. Manages Triggers: It teaches your brain new, healthier ways to react to stress, anger, or lonely feelings. I need to find the mental force to keep going when things get tough.

Imagine you have a tiny "Power Engine" inside your chest. When you feel tired or like giving up, it's just because the engine needs a little "mental juice." You can fill it up by saying kind words to yourself and remembering that you are a strong superhero who can do hard things! Why This Happens: We often feel a "battle of wills" between our conscious "wants" and our biological "needs". If your "engine" is exhausted from stress (releasing too much cortisol), your mental force declines. You are likely relying on "untrained learnings" that say giving up is the best way to save energy. How to Fix It: Use the "Wobble Rule" for somatic grounding. If you feel like quitting, pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the floor. This "somatic signal" tells your brain you are safe and restores your "power to decide". Use an "Ego Strengthening" to remind your subconscious of your "unique talents" and "inner strength". Context Research: Stephen Williams’ "Pressure Performance Curve" shows that we must avoid "Strain" to keep our judgment and force intact. A "Durable Self" is built by resolving these internal conflicts daily through proactive routines. FAQ: Q: What is hypnotherapy and how does it work? A: Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation andfocused attention to access the subconscious mind, helping to change unhelpful patterns and promote mental wellbeing. Q: Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety and stress? A: Yes, hypnotherapy can assist in managing anxiety by calming the nervous system and reprogramming negative thought patterns. Q: How many hypnotherapy sessions are usually needed? A: The number varies depending on the individual and the issue but often between 3 to 10 sessions are recommended. Q: Is hypnotherapy safe? A: Hypnotherapy is considered safe when practised by a qualified professional and is non-invasive. Q: Can hypnotherapy improve focus and concentration? A: Yes, it can enhance mental clarity and concentratio...
