Monday assembly — celebrating learning

Monday assembly — celebrating learning Every Monday morning, St. Patrick's BNS comes together for whole-school assembly. Classes share learning and news, and we celebrate Captaen na Seachtaine — the weekly armband awarded in each classroom for effort, attendance and enjoying school. A small weekly ritual that means a lot to our boys. More: https://www.stpatricksboys.net/initiatives/weekly-school-assembly/

Lunch Time Pals

Lunch Time Pals is a lively St. Patrick's BNS tradition. Every Tuesday and Thursday at big break, our 6th class organise games and activities for the whole school — basketball, chess, story time, ping pong and more. It's leadership in action for the older boys, and a happier lunchtime for everyone. More: https://www.stpatricksboys.net/initiatives/lunch-time-pals/

Meet Tadhg, our school therapy dog

Meet Tadhg, our school therapy dog Meet Tadhg — our school therapy dog at St. Patrick's BNS. Tadhg is part of everyday school life, supporting pupils and staff. Boys can spend time with him during the day — walking, playing, or a quiet belly rub when they need it. We're grateful to My Canine Companion and to Mr Mullins, Ms Kelleher and Mr Foley for caring for Tadhg. He recently graduated from training college with honours — we're very proud of him. Thank you to Lauren Golden, Psychotherapist and Play Therapist, for delivering a wonderful Parental Workshop on Teen Anxiety in the centre tonight. It was excellently attended by the public. Thank you to Mayfield CDP for collaborating with us and funding the event. Feedback from those who attended was extremely positive.

Business Update Cork City

I have a dilemma and feel conflicted about my choices.

Long shot here as finding an analogy is not always the easiest but imagine a minute tranferring your preferences to a simple food choice..... your mouth wants a cookie but your body wants a carrot. It’s like two friends arguing! To solve the argument, you have to be a "Great Listener." Listen to what the carrot will do for your muscles and what the cookie is just doing for your tongue, then pick the one that makes your whole body happy. Why This Happens: This is a conflict between your "needs" (biological fuel) and your "wants" (sensory entertainment). Your "Engine" wants to use the least amount of effort, so it often chooses "comfortable shortcuts" (like fast food) that others have prepared. If you always follow the "group value," you self-sabotage your own unique health path. How to Fix It: Use the "10/10/10 Rule". Ask: "How will I feel about this food choice in 10 minutes? 10 months? 10 years?". This clears the "mental rust" and helps you choose based on your long-term "Durable Self" rather than a short-term impulse. Context Research: Maslow's Hierarchy reminds us that eating is a basic need, but once survival is met, food becomes emotional. By "elevating your consciousness" above the reactive "Fight/Flight/Fawn" response, you can make eating a "deliberate choice".
